The Australia-class Aircraft Carrier' is a class of large aircraft carrier in service in the Royal Australian Navy. The Australia-class was designed by DRDC in 2008 to replace Australia's previous aircraft carrier, the 55 year old Essex-class carrier HMAS Australia which had been severely damaged by an attack from Indian Air Force MiG-29s on June 21st, 2008. The Australia is powered by a pair of pebble bed nuclear reactors and has three EMALS catapults for launching aircraft. The Australia can hold up to seventy fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.
