The Ticonderoga-class Guided Missile Cruiser is a class of warship in service in the United States Navy from 1983 onwards. The Ticos are the first ships to be equipped with the AEGIS combat system and the AN/SPY-1 multifuction AESA radar. The first five ships were equipped with the Mark 26 twin-arm missile launchers while the rest were equipped with the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System. The Guadalcanal was built in 2006 as part of the CGX Program to eventually replace the Ticonderoga-class cruisers with a new class of nuclear cruiser.

Prior to the Iranian Revolution, the Imperial Iranian Navy planned for order a pair of Ticonderoga-class cruisers.
