The Reuben James-class is a class of multi-mission guided-missile frigates for the United States Navy, to be contracted from 2020, as a follow-on to the modular Freedom and Independence class littoral combat ships. The FFG(X) was announced in a United States Department of Defense Request For Information (RFI) on July 10th, 2017. Designs from ten shipbuilders are competing to be selected for the proposed twenty FFG(X) guided-missile frigates. On April 30th 2020, it was announced that the Fincantieri-Marinette Marine proposal had been selected as the FFG(X) design.
