Royal Canadian Navy
The Royal Canadian Navy comprises the naval forces of the Canadian Armed Forces. As of 2014, the Royal Canadian Navy operates 105 active warships, 252 fixed wing aircraft, and 174 helicopters. It is staffed by 71,500 active duty personnel, 8,000 marines, and 31,500 reserve personnel. Aside from the United States Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy is the only navy to use the F-14 Tomcat.
Founded in 1910 as the Naval Service of Canada and given Royal Sanction in 1911, the RCN was placed under the Department of National Defence in 1923, and amalgamated with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army to form the unified Canadian Forces in 1968, after which it was known as "Maritime Command" until 2011. Over the course of its history, the RCN served in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, the Gulf War, Cyprus, Lebanon, South Africa, the Balkans, Kosovo the Afghanistan War, and numerous United Nations peacekeeping missions and NATO operations.
