The Honourable General Romeo Antonius Dallaire VC CV CC CMM GOQ MSC CD is the Canadian Minister of National Defence. He is a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces and was the Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda during the Rwandan Genocide. During that crisis, Dallaire led UN peacekeepers and Canadian reinforcements transported to Rwanda by Operation Messiah to stop the mass killings. For his leadership as well as several actions that saw Dallaire wounded in action, Romeo Dallaire was awarded the Victoria Cross and the Cross of Valour.
