Operation Messiah

Operation Messiah was a Canadian Forces military operation to assist the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda in stopping the Rwandan Genocide. The initial operation centered on the deployment of the Canadian Airborne Regiment and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry by air to Kigali, Rwanda with signficiant armoured and logistical support. The Operation led to the restoration of the Arusha Peace Accords and was believed to have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Operation Messiah is considered by historians as one of the finest moments in Canadian history.
