The Hughes-Raytheon AIM-54 Phoenix is a radar-guided, long-range air-to-air missile (AAM), carried in clusters of up to six missiles on F-14 Tomcats, its only launch platform. The Phoenix was the United States' first long-range air-to-air missile. The weapons system based on Phoenix was the world's first to allow simultaneous guidance of missiles against multiple targets. As of 1998, the Phoenix missile has been retired and replaced by the more advanced Hughes-Raytheon AIM-152 AAAM and the AN/AWG-9 radar has been replaced by the AN/APG-71C. The Phoenix has seen use by the United States Navy and Canadian Forces.
