Gimli Glider

The Gimli Glider is the nickname of a Boeing 767-233, Registration C-GAUN, that was operated by Air Canada. On July 23rd, 1983, the aircraft ran out of fuel while operating as Air Canada Flight 143.

The flight crew, led by Captain Bob Pearson, glided the aircraft and landed at former RCAF Station Gimli with only some injuries during the evacuation.

After decades of service, the Gimli Glider was retired on January 1st, 2008. The aircraft was subsequently donated to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.
