The amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) transits the Pacific Ocean during a 26 ship formation photo exercise, which was the culmination of Annual Exercise (ANNUALEX 21G), the largest annual bilateral exercise with the USN and the JMSDF on November 17th, 2009.

The Blue Ridge-class amphibious command ships (LCC) of the United States Navy are a pair of large, special-purpose ship, originally designed to command large amphibious invasions. However, as amphibious invasions have become unlikely, they are now used as general command ships, and serve as floating headquarters for the various combatant commands. Currently, they are assigned to the 6th and 7th fleets as flagships.
